Julian Arredondo

Julian Arredondo, CAE, stepped down as the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America association’s chief operating officer effective March 31. Arredondo, who began at GCSAA as its chief financial officer in December 1993, moved to the chief operating officer position in March 2003.

Los Lagos Golf Course in San Jose, Calif., and its certified golf course superintendent Alan Andreasen were named chapter winners of the 2004 Golf Course Superintendents Association of America/Golf Digest Environmental Leaders in Golf Awards.

Crystal Springs Golf Course in Burlingame, Calif., and its certified golf course superintendent Tim Powers were named merit winners of the 2004 Golf Course Superintendents Association of America/Golf Digest Environmental Leaders in Golf Awards.

Eureka (Calif.) Golf Course and its golf course superintendent Don Roller were named merit winners of the 2004 Golf Course Superintendents Association of America/Golf Digest Environmental Leaders in Golf Awards.

Gary Hart

Gary Hart joined Arthur Hills/Steve Forrest & Associates as director of business development for the western/pacific region. Hart will be the operations director for a new design office based in Scottsdale, Ariz., where his responsibilities will center on generating original design and course renovation opportunities in the western United States and Asia-Pacific region.

Allen Manguson is the new general manager and head golf professional at Cape Coral’s city-owned Coral Oaks Golf Course in Florida.

PGA Tour player Brandt Jobe heads the newest class of the Colorado Golf Hall of Fame. Also elected were Aurora director of golf Dennis Lyon, Ed Nosewicz Sr. and Jack Sommers.

Brook Schmitt recently purchased Foxboro Golf Club in Oregon, Wis. Schmitt spent the previous eight years at Door Creek Golf Course in Cottage Grove, Wis., where he was head professional and general manager.

Roy Lee Ballard, PGA professional and superintendent, passed away March 13. Ballard worked for several golf courses throughout the country including: Soangetaha Country Club in Galesburg, Ill., and LakeRidge Golf Course, Hidden Valley Country Club and Rosewood Lakes Golf Course, all in Reno, Nev.

Paul Miller

Paul Miller opened Paul Miller Design, a golf course architecture firm in Woodbury, Minn. Miller previously was teamed with Garrett Gill at Gill Miller in River Falls, Wis.

Arthur Jack Snyder, a past president and Fellow of the American Society of Golf Course Architects and member since 1964, died Feb. 12 in Phoenix. He was 87.

Bobby Dolph McGee, 67, passed away. He was a golf course superintendent, working at the Atlanta Athletic Club, The Country Club of Little Rock, and North Hills Country Club. He was a golf course designer, designing the Glenwood Country Club and Cooper’s Hawk in Melbourne, Ark. And as the owner of McGee Golf and Design, he was a consultant to courses throughout Arkansas. He was a member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America, the Golf Course Superintendents Association of Arkansas and the Georgia Golf Course Superintendents Association.

James O. King, founder of Regal Chemical Co., passed away Feb. 26, 2005.

Leslie Ann Drummond was hired as director of golf at Twin Bridges Golf Club in Gadsden, Ala.

Dale Matheson was promoted to grounds superintendent at Miami Shores Golf Course in Troy, Ohio. He will report to Ken Green, who recently became the city-owned course’s golf director. The promotion follows Tom White’s retirement as superintendent of the golf course.

Dan Schlegel, designer or co-designer of several award-winning golf courses while working with Ault-Clark & Associates, opened his own firm in Edgewater, Md.

Barry Hyde was named chief marketing officer for the U.S. Golf Association.

Pat Walton joined Reinders’ turf division as a territory manager. Walton, a certified golf course superintendent, is a past board member of the Minnesota Golf Course Superintendents Association and the Minnesota Turf and Grounds Foundation.

Mike Trigg, CSFM, Waukegan, Ill., is the new president of the Sports Turf Managers Association. Other new officers of STMA are: past president, Bob Campbell, CSFM, University of Tennessee; president-elect, Mike Andersen, CSFM, Iowa State University; vice president, Victoria Wallace, Tee and Green Sod; secretary, Abby McNeal, CSFM, Invesco Field at Mile High; and treasurer, Boyd Montgomery, CSFM, Sylvania Recreation Corp.

Michael Daly is the new director of marketing for the Chipco Professional Products Division of Bayer Environmental Science. Jim Fetter is manager of the Lawn & Landscape sales region, and Ben Cicora was named business manager of Herbicides/PGRs for Chipco.

Jeffrey Hazan joined Komatsu Zenoah America Inc. as chief financial officer.

Connie B. Welch joined ChemReg International as a global regulatory consultant.

Dow AgroSciences hired Russ Morgan as a sales trainee for the Turf and Ornamental business. Morgan will work with customers in the lawn care, golf and nursery industries in Florida.

Hunter Industries appointed Guy Collins sales manager. Collins is responsible for contractor, specification, golf course, municipality and casino sales through the company’s distribution network. His territory will cover Las Vegas, Southern Utah and the Colorado River district.

Alexandra Nicole Galanek was promoted to group brand marketing manager of the John Deere Golf & Turf One Source.

Rick Grant has been named director of business development for Phoenix Environmental Care LLC.

Brian Payseno has been hired as the corporate communications manager for Nufarm Americas.

Pursell Technologies announced the promotion of Arnold Cleghorn to the position of president.

Western Golf Properties announced that Rob Ford will be joining the corporate headquarters as national director of golf operations. Ford will oversee and work with directors of golf at each facility to ensure that objectives, policies, programs and fiscal practices of managed courses are implemented, administered and maintained.
