Because the course was designed to have putting green quality even on fairways, Anderson’s primary criteria for selecting a variety of bentgrass was to find one that was a low thatch producer.
Similar to its predecessor, Penneagle, which is known throughout the golf industry as a low thatch producer, Penneagle II is equally effective in this area. In addition, Penneagle II provides superior resistance against brown patch and offers good dollar spot resistance. Penneagle II is distributed by Tee-2-Green, Corp.
“Penneagle II was developed on the foundation and strength of Penneagle, so like the original, it provides flawless fairway conditions and superior playing surface,” says Bill Rose, president of Tee-2-Green. “However, now it’s been improved to provide an increased natural resistance to a variety of diseases.”
The Tom Fazio Championship Golf Course is planning a two-part opening. The first nine holes are scheduled to open in spring 2006. The remaining holes are slated to open the following fall.
