John Deere announced Penn State as the winner of the Collegiate Turf Bowl during the 2026 GCSAA Conference and Trade Show in Orlando. As the winner, Penn State University received a $15,000 cash prize.
The annual GCSAA Collegiate Turf Bowl is a competition aimed at simulating real-world challenges for the next generation of golf course superintendents. Participating students gained valuable, hands-on experience while competing for this year’s title. The winning team from Penn State excelled in these challenges, demonstrating its deep industry knowledge and problem-solving skills. The event featured 275 students from 79 teams.
“It is beyond rewarding to experience these aspiring students put their golf course management skills to the test each year”, said Manny Gan, global director of golf, John Deere. “Our Turf Bowl participants continue to raise the industry standard, demonstrating the depth of expertise needed to thrive on the golf course. In particular, Penn State’s winning performance exemplifies that excellence, and we are proud to have deepened our committed to GCSAA by raising our prize contribution for this year.”
New for 2026, John Deere provided its largest contribution to date, gifting $78,000 in prize money for the competing teams. For over 16 years, John Deere has served as the official Turf Bowl sponsor, and this expanded commitment reflects its continued support of the future generation of golf course professionals.
