Pawley's Plantation names director of golf

Jason Epstein will manage the day-to-day operations of the South Carolina resort’s pro shop, golf course, member and guest tournaments, and work with the golf course superintendent.

Pawleys Plantation Golf & Country Club in Pawleys Island, S.C., named Jason Epstein director of golf. Epstein will manage the day-to-day operations of the resort’s pro shop and its Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course, as well as plan all member and guest tournaments, and work with the golf superintendent to ensure optimum course conditions.

Prior to joining Pawleys Plantation, Epstein was the golf operations director for the Biltmore luxury golf resort in Coral Gables, Fla., near Miami. During his tenure, he was responsible for budgeting, planning, and implementing all golf related initiatives. Epstein hired, trained, and managed a team of eight golf professionals and oversaw a crew of 45-plus service personnel, and 20 outside maintenance staff. He also planned and executed a multi-million dollar renovation of the Donald Ross-designed course and its facilities.

Epstein’s career began in Tucson, Ariz., as an assistant golf professional at Skyline Country Club where he was an intern for the professional golf program in 1992. He then returned to Coral Gables, Fla. in 1995, and became first assistant professional for the 18-hole Donald Ross course at Biltmore and the nine-hole Granada golf course also in Coral Gables. From 1999 to 2002, as director of golf at Seaway Hotel Corporation/Biltmore Hotel, his main focus was in tournament operations and instruction. During his years in Coral Gables, he also served as the tournament chairman on the rules committee for the Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Tournament, as well as South Florida PGA Section chairman for the employee/public relations board.

Epstein, who currently resides in Pawley Island, S.C. with his wife Tina and son Samuel, graduated with honors from the PGA of America Business School II. He also has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from New Mexico State University where he was a member of the University Golf Team. Elected to the PGA of America in 1996, Epstein has certifications from the PGA in teaching, public relations, inventory control, tournament management, food and beverage, and merchandising.
