Palm Beach superintendents sweep Florida GCSA golf championships

The Palm Beach Chapter of the Florida GCSA swept the team and individual honors by edging out the Central Florida Chapter in the annual Florida GCSA golf tournament.

Haines City, Fla. – The Palm Beach Chapter of the Florida Golf Course Superintendents Association swept the team and individual honors by edging out the Central Florida Chapter by one shot in the 12th Annual Florida GCSA golf tournament held at the Southern Dunes Golf Club Saturday, Sept. 27th.

Led by Deron Zendt’s low medalist round of 2-under score of 70, the Palm Beach #1 Team had a gross total of 308. Team members were Deron Zendt, Banyan G.C., Steve Bernard, Adios G.C.; Mark Henderson, Gulfstream G.C., and Mark Heater, Addisson Reserve C.C.

Zendt’s individual victory qualifies him for the Florida GCSA team to compete in the GCSAA Golf Championship to be held in Gulf Shores, AL in February 2009. Joining Zendt on the Florida team will be: Seth Strickland, Miami Shores G.C., Steve Bernard, Adios G.C., and Blair Kirby, PGA National.

Talk about peer pressure, host superintendent Ward Pepperman deserves a lot of credit for having the course in excellent tournament condition under the critical eye of his peers.

The Florida GCSA has 951 superintendent and assistant superintendent members in 11 regional chapters around the state and is an affiliated chapter of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America.
