Our first road trip of 2020 includes a stop in a familiar city on the industry circuit.
Golf Course Industry will begin the new decade in Orlando, engaging and informing 2020 Golf Industry Show attendees. Our base for the trade show portion of GIS, scheduled for Jan. 29-30, is booth No. 1747 inside the Orange County Convention Center.
We have some of the usual goodies at the booth such as copies of our January 2020 “State of the Industry” issue and December 2019 “Turfheads Take Over” issue, plus opportunities to interact with members of our team, including editors Guy Cipriano and Matt LaWell, columnist Tim Moraghan, publisher Dave Szy, account managers Russ Warner and Andrew Hatfield, and marketing director Irene Sweeney.
We’re also celebrating the art of podcasting by distributing a limited supply of Superintendent Radio Network earbuds to booth visitors. The earbuds should come in handy, because we are increasing the frequency and scope of our podcast offerings in 2020.
At 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, we’re partnering with Aquatrols to recognize industry communication via social media at #GCITweetUp20. The ninth annual event honors winners of the 2020 Super Social Media Awards and provides opportunities for GIS attendees to meet colleagues they admire on social media. Held at Aquatrols booth No. 1617, #GCITweetUp20 begins at 2 p.m. with live music and a happy hour. The celebration continues following the formal awards ceremony.
Multiple Golf Course Industry columnists and contributors are involved with the educational portion of GIS. Their appearances include:
• Henry DeLozier, author of the monthly “Game Plan,” is leading “The Business of Golf – A Superintendent’s Game” seminar from 8 a.m. to noon Monday, Jan. 27.
• Matthew Wharton, author of the monthly “America’s Greenkeeper” column, is participating in the “Master Greenkeeper” seminar from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Jan. 27 and “Golf Course Superintendents Guide to Selling Golf Irrigation” panel discussion from 10:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Jan. 28.
• Anthony Williams, a frequent magazine contributor, is joining Wharton on the selling irrigation panel and participating in the “Maximize Your Team” session from 3 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. Jan. 28.
When the trade show begins Jan. 29, editor Guy Cipriano is moderating a trio of educational discussions at BASF booth No. 1117. Scheduled for 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. the panels will feature some of the industry’s most respected superintendents and researchers offering perspective on controlling disease on cool- and warm-season turf.
