NY considers categories one and two pesticide ban

NYSTA urges turf managers to call their regions’ senators to opposed the bill.

Earlier this year, New York state Senator Brian Foley introduced a bill that would ban categories one and two pesticides for ornamentals and turf, including golf course applications. Bill S4983 is on Tuesday’s Senate Environmental Conservation Committee agenda, according to alert issued by the New York State Turfgrass Association.

Category one pestides, including Prograss herbicide and Proxy growth regulator, have the “danger” signal word; category two pesticides, including Banner Maxx fungicide and Trimec herbicide, have the “warning” signal word. The NYSTA urges concerned turf managers to called Senate Environmental Conservatin Committee members from their regions. Contacts are:

  • Westchester area – Senate Committee members Suzi Oppenheimer, Vincent Leibell and Andrea Stewart-Cousins
  • Long Island area – Brain Foley, Carl Marcellino and Owen Johnson
  • Capital District/Adirondack area – Elizabeth Little
  • Western New York area – Catherine Young and committee chair Antoine Thompson
