Novozymes Biologicals plans to open a new 32,000 square foot Dry Agricultural Products (DAP) production facility, tripling the company’s current capabilities to produce granular and soluble fertilizers for its Roots product line of environmentally friendly products. The Roots product range includes organic based fertilizers, micronutrients, growth enhancers, disease control and insect control products for use in the turf, horticultural, nursery and agricultural markets. The new DAP facility will employ around 12 people and production will begin upon the building’s completion in 2008.
Salem, Va. - based Novozymes Biologicals, a wholly owned subsidiary of Novozymes, the biotech-based world leader in enzymes and microorganisms, produces environmentally compatible products using advanced biotechnologies for a wide variety of applications. Such applications include cleaning and odor control for institutional and household products, industrial and municipal waste treatment products and new technologies for animal health and plant care.
Under the Roots name, which the company acquired in 2003, Novozymes Biologicals develops and distributes organic based fertilizers, microbes, mycorrhizal fungi, biostimulants, micronutrients, biofungicides and bioinsecticides for the turf, ornamental, horticultural, landscaping, nursery and agricultural markets.
John Sedivy, Novozymes director of new business development, noted that sales of the products from the DAP facility will continue to be coordinated from Novozymes Biologicals’ headquarters to provide the most efficient and effective customer service.
Novozymes’ triple bottom line philosophy, which reiterates its commitment to sustainable development and community service, has led the company to contribute to Noble County, giving to local 4-H and Boy Scout clubs and donating more than $5,000 to Black Pine Animal Park.
