Nominate green space accomplishments

Project EverGreen seeks America’s most improved green space.

Project EverGreen invites nominations of companies, organizations or individuals that have made major strides to create or improve a green space. The second annual Because Green Matters Award nominations are due by March 1. The award is presented each year on Earth Day, April 22, to promote the beneficial effects of green spaces.

In 2005, Project EverGreen recognized the University of Akron for adding 30 acres of open green spaces, featuring many new and abundant landscape enhancements, including the planting of 30,000 new trees that line the defined campus.

“The University of Akron embodies exactly what we promote through Project EverGreen,” says Den Gardner, executive director. “It is creating an environment at the campus that encourages a sense of identity for the students and helps them see how green spaces enhance their outlook and well-being.”

The award is open to anyone. Interested parties may nominate themselves, their company or organization. Applications will be judged and a winner selected by a group of independent, expert judges. Applications must be postmarked by March 1 and the winner will be notified in later that month.
