Albany, N.Y. – The Northeastern Golf Course Superintendents Association presented the Distinguished Service Award to Scott Gallup, superintendent of Capital Hills at Albany. Gallup was presented the award for his involvement and commitment to the NEGCSA. The award ceremony took place at the Country Club of Troy May 16.

Gallup is past president of the NEGCSA and has been editor of the association’s newsletter, “Our Collaborator” for close to 10 years. He is the chair of the local chapter relations committee. In this capacity, Gallup has built public awareness of the profession of golf and golf’s contributions to the community.

He is also chair of the government relations committee and has been active in addressing legislative and regulatory issues within New York State. His efforts were recently profiled in the GCSAA online newsletter for his response to their grassroots campaign. The GCSAA government relations department launched a campaign to defeat burdensome pesticide legislation and educate lawmakers about the importance of pesticides for maintaining healthy turf. Gallup responded by mailing personalized letters to more than 50 lawmakers in the New York Legislature. The article quoted Gallup as saying, “It is extremely important for superintendents to get involved when legislative action is pending in their state. If we don’t respond to our lawmakers, they’ll think that we don’t care about the issues. Legislators need to hear from us before it is too late.”

In July of this year, Gallup and Capital Hills at Albany played host to the Albany Futures Pro Golf Classic which benefited the Albany Police and Fire Foundation. The Futures Tour is now the largest international developmental tour and the second largest women’s golf tour in the world. The goal of the tour is to provide female professional golfers the opportunity to develop their skills and move on to the LPGA Tour.
