New York fund-raising event to benefit the environment

The 8th Annual Sullivan County Challenge fundraising tournament will be held at Grossinger Country Club, in Liberty, N.Y., Aug. 15.

The 8th Annual Sullivan County Challenge fundraising tournament will be held at Grossinger Country Club, in Liberty, N.Y., on Wednesday, Aug. 15.  The New York State Turfgrass Association, Grossinger Country Club, and the Hudson Valley Golf Course Superintendents Association will sponsor the tournament.

A shotgun start is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.  After the tournament, an “open bar” cocktail reception will take place where hors d’oeuvres will be served and prizes will be awarded.  The cost to register is $110, which covers all of the day’s events.

The Annual Sullivan County Challenge is one of NYSTA’s most successful fundraiser tournaments with seven years of proceeds totaling $63,713.  Last year’s proceeds supported 2007 Turfgrass Advocacy Day; joint turfgrass lobbying efforts with the New York Alliance for Environmental Concerns; ShortCUTT - an electronic newsletter produced by Cornell University and distributed to NYSTA members for 32 weeks during the growing season; and LEAD New York, a program dedicated to developing horticultural and agricultural leaders.  The proceeds from this year’s tournament will assist our legislative efforts to promote environmental issues in New York State.  Those who sponsor the event are offered exposure through signage, announcements, and tournament publicity if they respond by June 28.

The New York State Turfgrass Association is comprised of 1,600 green industry professionals who have joined together to share technology, promote environmental stewardship, support education, advance research and disseminate research findings.
