New Jacobsen director of product management focuses on customer needs

Brian Melka has taken the position with the turf maintenance equipment manufacturer.

Brian Melka recently accepted the position of director of product management for Jacobsen, a Textron company. In his new role, Melka is responsible for long-term product strategy and the Jacobsen product portfolio of turf maintenance equipment and vehicles for golf, grounds, sports field, professional lawn care and municipal applications.

"Brian joins Jacobsen with a clear objective of making our customers successful by creating a product portfolio that allows them to accomplish their goals," says Ryan Weeks, vice president of engineering and product management for Jacobsen. "Brian has a passion and a knack for understanding the needs of customers and translating those needs into products."
 
Melka began his career with Textron in 1998 at Greenlee, a manufacturer of professional tools for wire and cable installation.

He also worked in the company's Industrial Products segment and most recently supported customer leadership, strategy, communications and investor relations as a Six Sigma Master Black Belt in Textron's corporate offices located in Providence, Rhode Island.

Six Sigma is a statistically based program focusing on reducing variation, eliminating waste and promoting growth and innovation.

The Master Black Belt certification is given to those who demonstrate a high level of mastery of Six Sigma methodology and techniques.

Melka's area of specialty is Design for Six Sigma which focuses on delivering products and services that customers need, when and where they need it, without quality issues.
