A United States Golf Association grant of $100,000 will help build a new practice facility for use by The First Tee of Salt Lake City. A check presentation and groundbreaking ceremony will beWednesday at 10 a.m. at the Jordan River Parkway Par 3 golf course located at 1200 N. Redwood Road.
Preliminary work for the new practice area has already begun. When completed, the project will include new areas for practice tees, target greens and practice bunkers.
Although the practice area is being built for youngsters involved with The First Tee of Salt Lake City, this facility will be open for use by the general public as well.
According to The First Tee of Salt Lake City Executive Director Tammy Kikuchi, "Our nonprofit organization seeks to impact the lives of young people by creating affordable and accessible golf facilities to primarily serve those who have not previously had exposure to the game and its positive values. This past summer, we had 135 children in the program, and we hope to increase this number to 200 next year."
Kikuchi added, "Ames Construction and golf course architect William Neff have played key roles in beginning this project. Their generous donations and pro bono work are really bringing this great facility to fruition much faster than we had originally hoped."
The public is welcome to attend the check presentation.
