A national company has taken over management of Pasadera's country club and golf course.

Dallas-based ClubCorp, a private firm that specializes in operating upscale private clubs and golf resorts, assumed daily management duties of Pasadera Country Club on Tuesday. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

The company has invited club members and residents of the gated community to evening meetings this week to explain what changes, if any, will occur under its management.

The first meeting was scheduled Tuesday evening, after press time. Residents hadn't been told of major changes before then, but they likely will start talking among themselves soon, said Don Reilly, a club member and Pasadera resident.

Reilly said he's glad to see ClubCorp move in because he's had good experiences with them in the past.

"Personally, I think it's a good thing," he said. Reilly and his wife, Janet Taylor Reilly, were members of ClubCorp-run Ipswich Country Club in Massachusetts before they moved to Monterey County two years ago.

"Anytime there's change, people are going to challenge it. That's the way it is," Reilly said. But, he added, "ClubCorp does a great job of running golf courses and clubhouses."

Before ClubCorp, the country club and golf course had been managed by Pasadera developer New Cities Development.

Pasadera Country Club includes a 38,000-square-foot clubhouse that features formal and informal dining and conference facilities, a fitness center, a swimming pool and tennis courts.

There also is a par-71, Jack Nicklaus Signature-designed golf course that weaves through the upscale residential development.

"We are thrilled to be managing Pasadera," ClubCorp President and CEO John Beckert said in a news release. "Not only is the club located in one of the most affluent residential communities on the Monterey Peninsula -- one the most scenic areas of the country -- but the golf course is a Jack Nicklaus Signature design at its best. We are proud to add Pasadera to our portfolio of managed clubs."

Founded in 1957, ClubCorp owns or operates nearly 200 golf courses, resorts, and business and sports clubs worldwide. Properties include Pinehurst in the Village of Pinehurst, N.C.; Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio; Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage; and City Club on Bunker Hill in Los Angeles, as well as resorts in Australia, Asia and Mexico. The company has around 18,000 employees.

About 150 homes have been built in Pasadera, near Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca off the Monterey-Salinas Highway. The development can accommodate about 250 homes.
