New FarmLinks headquarters breaks ground

The new offices and education pavilion will be located near the FarmLinks maintenance facility in Sylacauga, Ala.

FarmLinks has recently broken ground for its new offices and state-of-the-art education pavilion, located near the FarmLinks maintenance facility. Recently, members of the Pursell family, along with the FarmLinks team and representatives from partners in The Experience at FarmLinks, participated in an informal ceremony marking the beginning of a series of expansion projects that positions the new pavilion at the forefront.

For several years, FarmLinks has been envisioning a facility designed to enhance the educational environment for the benefit of guests and partners in The Experience at FarmLinks. The Education Pavilion, scheduled for completion on October 31, 2008, will be the fulfillment of that vision.

The unique indoor/outdoor design of the facility is designed to work in harmony with the environment and to offer one-of-a-kind, hands-on educational programs. The Education Pavilion features an innovative, high-tech presentation theater that will open up to an outdoor research and demonstration area. The theater will also have the capability to transform into focus group rooms that will provide a ready-made setting for gathering information from golf course superintendents as well as from other visiting groups.

“This is a very exciting time for us," said David Pursell, c.e.o. of FarmLinks. "The new Pavilion will be a great addition to our educational programming. Each year, we bring in more than 1,200 turf professionals to the Farm where they participate in dynamic demonstrations and solutions-oriented seminars. The facility will also provide our partners with exhibit space and an ideal research and testing ground for obtaining consistent, immediate feedback while developing long-lasting relationships with end users.”

Under construction alongside the Education Pavilion is FarmLinks’ new headquarters, which will contain offices and conference rooms as well as a permanent home for Shanks, the unofficial mascot of FarmLinks.  The new building will include connections to the Education Pavilion via walkways and cart paths and is expected to be completed in November of 2008.

“FarmLinks is an extraordinary, first-class venue,” stated Erle Fairly, president of FarmLinks. “We are always envisioning more and better ways to use and enjoy the property. With the addition of our new headquarters and the Education Pavilion, along with a few more projects on the horizon, we look forward to growth and progress and to offering superintendents, partners and all our guests more opportunities to visit our facilities.”

Pursell added, “With a 3,500-acre property, a championship golf course and a top-quality educational program for turf professionals, we currently have many things to offer here at FarmLinks. But we’ve always wanted this to be more than just a golf course.  The current construction projects and our plans for future expansion will authenticate and continue that mission for us.”
