Needham Town Meeting members recently approved a new 20-year lease for the Needham (Mass.) Golf Club, to take effect in 2009.
Their favorable vote concludes a year-long lease renewal process, which has seen a number of public hearings throughout the community. The Needham Golf Club’s bid was approved by a near-unanimous vote of Needham Town Meeting on May 13, following favorable recommendations from both the Needham Board of Selectmen and the Needham Finance Committee.
The club owns, independently, 6 acres of land adjacent to the land that it leases from the Town of Needham; their land is also part of the golf course.
The Needham Golf Club president, Paul Robey, said he was pleased to see the negotiations concluded and looks forward to continuing to work with the town.
“We always believed that we have strong support within the community, especially given that 90% of our membership is comprised of Needham residents or people with very strong ties to the town,” he said.
“One of the key advantages that we bring to the town is that we preserve this beautiful open space at no cost to the community," he adds. "Also, we believe that we have been good neighbors and we pledge to continue to be.
"We thank the Town Meeting members and Town Officials for the way they helped move this process along, and we look forward to a continued strong relationship with our hometown of Needham.”
