N. C. Chang and Associates to design Missouri golf course

The golf course architecture firm will design the Cox Ford community and the Indian Tree Golf Course in Ozark Mountains.

The Ball in the Woods, a Nixa, Mo., developer, has commissioned N.C. Chang and Associates, an internationally recognized golf course architecture, land planning and landscape architecture firm to design a unique master plan community (Cox Ford) in the heart of Ozark Hills. The new community will include a new 18-hole championship golf course (Indian Tree), designed by ASGCA member Lee Chang, and is scheduled to open this fall.

The new community consists of 750 pristine acres of land with the famous James River running through it. The property has been owned and under the stewardship of the Cox family since 1874. The developer (Dwayne Hill and Tim Cox, a third generation Cox family member) wants to turn this area into an ecologically sensitive community, offering the ultimate in luxury amenities and natural beauty. The development will include housing of various types, golf, fishing, equestrian, camping and conference facilities. The historic beauty will play an integral part of the character of Cox Ford. The destination is conveniently located between Springfield and Branson, in the heart of the beautiful Ozark Mountains.

The championship golf course routes its way through the rolling hillside while dissecting light forest and pasture land. The course is also surrounded by the banks of James River. The river can be seen from holes 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 17, and 18.  The length of the course, although not extremely long, measures 6950 yards and is a par 72. However, the strategy and scenery of the holes make the golf course very challenging and enjoyable to play.
