Musser/Whitmore Charity Golf Tournament celebrates 31st year

Since 1975 inception, more than $504,000 has been raised for turf scholarships.

Hubbard, Oregon – Tee-2-Green, Corp. was among the sponsors of the annual Musser/Whitmore Memorial Golf Tournament. This year’s event, held on Oct. 9 at Arrowhead Golf Club in Mollalla, Oregon, raised $7,600 for scholarships to benefit graduate students’ turfgrass research studies.

“Each year, for 31 years now, we get together to raise money for scholarships to educate our future leaders and researchers,” said Bill Rose, president of Tee-2-Green and event organizer. “And along the way, we’re able to remember two of the people who led the way in bentgrass research and availability.”

Sixty-four golfers participated in the golf tournament named in honor of H. Burton Musser and Norm Whitworth. Musser, a professor at Penn State University, helped develop Penncross, the first Penn bentgrass variety. Norm Whitworth, a recent inductee of the Oregon Golf Course Superintendents Association Hall of Fame, was a supplier of turfgrass products in the northwest for more than 30 years.
