Moving up top 100

Rocky River moves up a spot to No. 78 in North Carolina’s top 100 ranking.

Concord, N.C. – Rocky River Golf Club has moved up one spot to No. 78 in the ranking of North Carolina’s best golf courses.

This marks the fourth straight year that the public course, owned by the City of Concord, has appeared in North Carolina Magazine’s survey of the best 100 courses in North Carolina. It checked in at No. 79 a year ago, and was ranked 89th in 2003 and 2002.

The top 100, released annually in the March issue of North Carolina, considers all of the state’s estimated 565 golf courses – public and private.

Rocky River received 317 points in balloting of 135 golf professionals, select amateurs, industry executives and golf media members who comprise the ratings panel. It was the second highest ranked public-access course in the Charlotte Metro region.

“Being 78th puts us in the top 15 percent of all golf courses in North Carolina, which is certainly something to be proud of,” says head professional Floyd Gragg. “I think Rocky River has a well-blended mix of 18 holes that complement each other. And the serene setting sets us apart from development courses.”

Rocky River Golf Club, located near Lowe’s Motor Speedway, was designed by course architect Dan Maples and opened Sept. 13, 1997. It’s owned by the City of Concord and professionally managed by Signet Golf Associates of Pinehurst.
