Golf Course Superintendents Association of America c.e.o. Steve Mona, CAE, has been chosen by Golf Inc. magazine as one of the “Most Powerful People in Golf.” Mona, GCSAA chief executive since December 1993, was first named by the magazine as one of the industry’s most powerful people in 2001 and “Most Dynamic Movers & Shakers” in 1999.

For the fifth consecutive year, he joins 24 others on the list in the magazine’s October 2005 issue, including previous GCSAA Old Tom Morris Award recipient’s Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Tom Fazio and Tim Finchem.

The list also includes several trustees and/or advisory council members of The Environmental Institute for Golf. The Institute is the philanthropic organization of the GCSAA. This group includes Greg Norman, chairman and c.e.o. of Great White Shark Enterprises, chairman of The Institute’s advisory council and an Institute trustee; Dana Garmany, chairman and c.e.o. of Troon Golf and a member of The Institute’s advisory council; Ron Jackson, president and c.e.o. of Meadowbrook Golf and an Institute trustee; Bill Kubly, founder and c.e.o. of Landscapes Unlimited and vice chairman/treasurer for The Institute; and Bob Wood, Nike Golf president and an Institute trustee. Fazio is also a former Institute trustee.

The magazine’s “Most Powerful” list focuses strictly on the impact individuals have on the business of golf, through golf course development, operations, management or equipment. These individuals have the ability to influence the development and building, the financing and the revenue streams of golf courses and golf organizations around the nation. The decisions they make affect virtually every course in the nation, either directly or indirectly.

“It is no surprise that Steve has again been named one of the most powerful individuals in golf,” says GCSAA president Timothy T. O’Neill, CGCS. “His leadership and knowledge of the golf industry has helped GCSAA become the successful association it is today.”

In addition to his role at GCSAA, Mona is active in the administration of the game as a member of the First Tee advisory committee, the World Golf Hall of Fame selection committee, the National Golf Foundation board of directors and the National Golf Course Owners Association advisory committee.
