Mission Inn Resort & Club, just 45 minutes north of Orlando, will host the 37th Annual Florida Junior Boys’ and Girls’ Invitational Championship July 4-6, 2008. The three-day, 54-hole stroke play tournament will take full advantage of Mission Inn’s two award-winning courses. The resort was also named one of Zagat’s Top American Golf Courses for 2007-2008.
Now in its 37th year, the world-renowned event attracts the most talented young golfers from throughout North America, South America, South Africa and Europe. It is one of the oldest junior tournaments in the Southeast United States. Many of these participants have gone on to successful careers on the PGA and LPGA Tours. Some of the notables that once participated in this invitational include Davis Love III, Mark Calcavecchia, Bob Tway, Lee Janzen, Chris Dimarco and Michelle McGann.
This year's young competitors will play on is El Campeon – which means “The Champion” in Spanish – built in 1917 by George O’Neil of Chicago. The resort’s second course, Las Colinas (“The Hills” in Spanish), was designed by former PGA Tour player and NBC Golf Analyst, Gary Koch. Over the years the resort has hosted Women’s Division II and III, Women’s I National, and Men’s Division II and III invitationals, among others.
