Nantucket, Mass. - Agility Golf, a team of professional golf instructors, will be heading up the new Nantucket Golf Academy at Miacomet Golf Course beginning this spring.
Nantucket Golf Academy will provide individual golf instruction along with group clinics, junior camps, schools and other educational activities at Miacomet, a public course owned by the Nantucket Islands Land Bank. Miacomet’s management company, Moors, selected Agility Golf to assist with this new educational effort because of the firm’s experience running successful golf programs.
“We are excited about our new relationship with Agility Golf through the Nantucket Golf Academy, which will not only be a wonderful addition to our recreation facility, but allow us to continue to grow the game of golf on Nantucket,” says Charlie Passios, president of Moors.
Phillip Truono, former master instructor for the Jim McLean Golf Schools, will serve as director of golf instruction at the academy. Truono has taught at private clubs and public facilities, and was an instructor at the Nicklaus/Flick Golf Schools and teaching professional at the prestigious Boca Rio Golf Club in Florida. As a certified golf fitness instructor, Truono provides evaluations and advice to pre-professional golfers, and had taught more than 1,000 children through junior clinics.
"Agility Golf is ready to work with the Moors Inc. team at Miacomet Golf Course and the Nantucket Islands Land Bank to bring an innovative teaching program to the island,” Truono says. "The large number of avid junior and novice golfers will appreciate our fun learning environment, complete with the latest coaching techniques and the use of video software."
David Morris, a member of the British and Australian PGA with extensive experience coaching golfers of all abilities including PGA/European tour players, will be joining Truono on the academy staff as first assistant. Additional staffers will include the co-founder of Agility Golf, Jim Damiano, former assistant at the Nantucket Golf Club and a teaching professional at Glen Oaks, New York, along with several male and female part-time instructors.
