Mayfair Lakes Golf and Country Club in Vancouver doubles cart revenue

The Inforemer is a hit with the public, the Canadian Professional Tour and the bottom line.

Mayfair Lakes Golf and Country Club in Richmond, B.C. doubled its cart revenue and increased its media profile five months after purchasing the Inforemer GPS-based golf business solution from GPS Industries. This week, Mayfair Lakes hosts the Greater Vancouver Classic event on the Canadian Professional Tour.

In February 2004, Mayfair Lakes purchased the Inforemer and currently has 30 carts equipped with the 10.4-inch, cart-mounted GPS units. Customer demand for carts with the GPS units attached increased. Mayfair Lakes is considering adding as many as 20 new carts and GPS units to support demand and generate additional profit.

Additionally, Mayfair Lakes is leveraging the Inforemer to take advantage of new revenue opportunities through increasing food-and-beverage orders to golfers on the course, advertising on the GPS units, rentals of its 27 handheld units and Wi-Fi Internet fees.

"Not only are we seeing increased revenue, but the Inforemer and its Wi-Fi network have created quite a buzz," said J.J. Belanger, general manager of Mayfair Lakes Golf and Country Club. "We've been profiled in the local golf and business media as cutting edge and offering the unique ability for the golfer to do business on the course. This exposure is bringing a great deal of attention to Mayfair Lakes, our unique golf experience, and is attracting a new level of business golfer and corporate tournaments."

Never before used on the Canadian Professional Tour, the Inforemer cart mounted GPS units were used on the course and a reported success during the preliminary Pro-Am events. Each GPS unit is equipped with course maps and information, precise distance measurements and two-way messaging and works seamlessly during tournaments with a real-time leaderboard.

Additionally,  Mayfair Lakes implemented InforeZone, turning its 200 acres into a "hot zone," enabling high speed wireless (Wi-Fi) Internet access by anyone, anywhere on the course or property.  Mayfair Lakes is able to sell Internet access to any of the hundreds of sponsors, spectators, guests, volunteers or corporations in attendance.
