Dracut, Mass. - The developer of the town's long-awaited golf course Tuesday night asked selectmen for relief from the covenant that restricts the number of occupancy permits available during the construction.
Fred Fahey of Premier Homes said the first nine holes of the golf course are complete and playable but his course designer recommended allowing the grass to establish itself for another year before the opening of Meadow Creek Golf Course.
A covenant issued by the Board of Selectmen three years ago stated that the first nine holes of the golf course had to be completed and open for play before the release of any permits over the initial 45 to begin construction.
Stanley Wallerstein, Fahey's attorney, explained the designer's recommendation to the board and asked for the release from the restriction of the covenant.
The board agreed to table the vote so they could seek advice from the town attorney, who was not at Tuesday's meeting.
