Mayor William Scanlon Jr. announced this week that a settlement had been reached between the city and two management companies over Beverly's municipally owned golf course. The city will pay $166,000 to Friel Golf, which formerly operated the course, to settle the company's claim that it overpaid the city during a previous contract. Also, the current course manager, Johnson Golf, will pay Friel Golf to settle pending lawsuits. The city has also signed a five-year $3.3 million contract that allows Johnson Golf to continue managing the course.
