Erik MacPherson is the recipient of the 2006 Zimmerman Award, an annual award sponsored by LESCO and presented by Penn State University’s Golf Course Turfgrass Management Technical Program.

MacPherson received a Bachelor’s Degree in landscape horticulture from Nova Scotia Agricultural College before matriculating at Penn State. He graduated this spring from Penn State after participating in the school’s Golf Course Management Program. He has also worked at the Abercrombie Golf Club in Nova Scotia as well as The Country Club in Boston, Mass.
“LESCO is pleased to recognize yet another outstanding turfgrass student from Penn State with this award,” says Jeff Rutherford, LESCO’s president and CEO. “Erik MacPherson clearly possesses many of the attributes that led David Zimmerman to leave such a strong impression on the people he worked with at LESCO. We hope these attributes continue to serve Erik well and that he enjoys a long and happy career as a golf course superintendent.”
MacPherson will continue his career as an assistant superintendent at Old Sandwich Golf Club in Massachusetts.
David Zimmerman graduated from Penn State in 1978 before joining LESCO at the company’s corporate office in Cleveland, Ohio. He was a bright, dynamic individual with tremendous promise. Zimmerman was diagnosed with leukemia soon after joining LESCO and passed away in 1981. LESCO worked with Penn State to establish the Zimmerman Award in his honor.
Zimmerman Award winners are nominated by their classmates based on their cooperation with others, professional attitude, personal conviction, moral character, scholarship and personality.
