Harleysville, Pa. - Lederach Golf Club, the championship layout designed by golf course architect Kelly Blake Moran, opened for play April 8, satisfying anticipation for a tournament-caliber routing centrally located for players throughout eastern Pennsylvania.
With undulating fairways, sloping greens, an array of native grasses, elevation changes and other natural obstacles to overcome during a round of golf, Moran devised a test that calls to mind courses from the golden era of golf course architecture. Lederach features deceptively difficult collection areas, uniquely shaped greens and strategically placed sand traps. The course has only 32 bunkers, all of which are in play.
"We wanted a design that reflected the subtle beauty of the terrain," says Moran. "Our 'land-based' approach to course building worked particularly well at Lederach and players can expect to find many opportunities to play shots they won't get to try at other courses."
The course measures 7,023 yards from the back tees. It has teeing grounds on each hole for juniors to encourage more youngsters to take up the game. Guarding Lederach's bentgrass fairways and greens are a host of fescues, blue stems and Indian switch grasses. The course also has an all-grass driving range.
Municipally owned by Lower Salford Township and professionally managed by Billy Casper Golf, the course is competitively priced and offers preferred rates for residents, junior and senior players. Tee times can be booked by phone at 215-513-3034 or online at www.lederachgolfclub.com.
Lederach's 5,000-square-foot clubhouse has panoramic views of the layout and features a dining area, à la carte menu, bar and lounge and a pro-shop. A pavilion is adjacent to the clubhouse and is perfect for relaxing after a round or for groups wanting to enjoy the outdoors during their special functions.
"Accessible from Philadelphia, Reading and the Lehigh Valley, Lederach Golf Club is one of the premier golf venues in eastern Pennsylvania," says BCG regional v.p. Tony Cianci, who oversees operations of the golf course . "The layout is second-to-none and the amenities - the driving range, clubhouse, pavilion - are what you would expect of an outstanding golf facility ."
