Mowder spent nearly 28 years with Dixon Industries, handling all aspects of sales and marketing from 1976 to 1995. In 1995, Mowder was promoted to senior vice president/general manager before assuming the role of president in 1996. Mowder also was active in OPEI, serving on the board of directors for seven years and as chairman of the board in 2001.
Company officials point out that Lastec has been primarily known as a turf line servicing the golf course industry with a line of articulating rotary mowers that specialize in cutting uneven terrain. With the hiring of Mowder, Lastec intends to infiltrate the high-end commercial market with a line of articulating mowers and an expanded distribution network. The new product line will be unveiled at the International Lawn, Garden and Power Equipment Expo in Louisville, Ky., this year.
“You’ll see our articulators on many of the more prominent golf courses in the world, like St. Andrews in Scotland and TPC at Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.,” says Laskowski. “That’s because the accuracy of cut on any mower is determined by the cutting deck, and more importantly, its cutting width. Articulating decks maintain the accuracy of small push mowers no matter how wide they cut. They are more accurate than fixed decks and every top golf course in the world knows it.
“Fifteen years ago, rotary mowers in the turf industry didn’t articulate,” he adds. “Golf courses lived with scalping and compromised cut quality to get productivity from wider decks, until we introduced the Articulator in 1990. Now, all courses demand the cut quality of articulating decks. It’s a simple fact that if a more accurate articulating deck is made available to the commercial market, it will become the benchmark by which all other decks are measured. Lastec plans on establishing that benchmark.”
