This renovation by La Quinta Resort & Club was completed to preserve the Mountain Golf Course’s reputation and by making it more challenging for the lower handicap golfers and more enjoyable for the higher handicap players.

The renovation of the 5,010-6,758 yard, par 72 course includes renovation of all 18 tee boxes, resurfaced Tif Dwarf Bermuda greens (which will help the course better withstand the desert’s extreme climate) and new cart paths. In addition, course designer Pete Dye, along with son Perry, consulted on the reshaping of the 2nd, 5th and 6th greens as well as three significant changes made to four of the tee areas. The 2nd and 14th tee boxes were redesigned and enlarged to double and triple their previous sizes. The 5th and 16th holes will now have mountain-side Championship tee boxes, with the 16th boasting a 167 yard, three-story drop to its green. The surrounding brush and rocks add to the challenge of the par 3.

The course is consistently ranked as one of the best as well as toughest courses from its Championship tees--with a course rating of 74.1 and a slope of 140.  Famous for its unique design and visually stunning setting, the Mountain Golf Course has won more than 100 awards, including Golf Digest’s “100 Best Courses” and “Top Ten in California” and Golf Magazine’s “Top 100 Courses You Can Play.”
