John Walker has joined La Costa Resort and Spa as its new director of golf sales. Walker has spent the past 11 years in the region, eight as part of JC Golf, a San Marcos-based golf management company.
At La Costa, part of the family of KSL Resorts, Walker is responsible for overseeing and enhancing group golf business at the famed 36-hole facility that is renowned as the site of PGA Tour events for 40 years.
“The key to success in our business is to maintain good relationships with clients,” says Walker, a resident of Oceanside, Calif. “I appreciate the opportunity to be at La Costa, to be part of the La Costa history and legacy. The resort has changed so much over the years, with its growth and renovations. It is the new La Costa.”
Walker, who graduated from Middlesex College in Edison, N.J., is an avid baseball fan who was lured to golf in his early 20s by his late father. Walker and his wife of 23 years, Stacey, have two sons, Sean, a freshman at Cal Poly, and Sam, a sophomore at Vista High. Both sons are golfers.
“John has an excellent reputation in the golf industry,” says Desi Howe, director of golf at La Costa. “He is an ideal fit for the La Costa team.”
La Costa’s two courses – the North Course and South Course – each feature a classic design that include striking and traditional touches, challenging golfers’ shot-making ability from tee to green. Four sets of tees provide a course length for all players to enjoy. Both courses are snuggled into the foothills of Carlsbad, 35 miles north of San Diego, meandering through 400 scenic acres accented by luxurious homes.
