Mustang Island, Texas – Developers of a 1,800-acre resort community on Texas’ Mustang Island, surrounded by the Gulf of Mexico and Corpus Christi Bay, selected KemperSports to oversee development and operations management of Newport Golf Club. The resort’s first 18-hole layout, an Arnold Palmer Signature Golf Course, is part of the first phase of construction within the budding coastal community called Newport Beach and Golf.
Upon completion, the planned upscale community – brainchild of partners Craig Millard and Charles Castor of Texas Gulf & Harbor Ltd. – will bring residential villages, multiple hotels, a marina, tennis and beach clubs, two golf courses and additional premium amenities to Mustang Island, located on the south end of Port Aransas.
“We have engaged nationally acclaimed companies to help us successfully steer this development, and KemperSports certainly falls into that category when it comes to golf development and management,” says Millard. “Together, we plan to make Newport a golfing community through a distinctive course design that preserves the island’s identity and bolsters its allure.”
The Port Aransas city council approved the planned development in 2002, and the city worked closely with Millard and Castor during its formation.
Newport Golf Club, slated to open in the summer of 2008, marks the latest addition to an expanding portfolio of facilities throughout the Gulf Coast and Southwest regions operated by KemperSports. Most recently, KemperSports was named development consultant of Butterfield Trail Golf Course in El Paso and will assume management of facility operations upon its opening in 2006.
