KemperSports names Butterfield Trail Golf Club general manager

Tom Fazio design slated for spring unveiling in Lone Star State.

KemperSports, manager of Butterfield Trail Golf Club in El Paso, announced Marty Wells as general manager of the upscale, Tom Fazio-designed desert layout. Wells has been involved with Butterfield Trail since September 2005 as course superintendent and will continue with grow-in supervision. He will assume responsibility for daily operations upon the facility’s opening, scheduled for late spring.

Wells’ resume includes experience in golf course management, operations and agronomy. Most recently, he served as general manager at the 27-hole Black Mountain Golf & Country Club near Las Vegas. Prior to that assignment, Wells managed turf operations at Tucson Country Club in Arizona as well as The Dominion Country Club in San Antonio, Texas, site of numerous Senior PGA Tour events.

“Tom Fazio and his team have created a very special golf course in El Paso,” said KemperSports president and c.o.o. Steve Skinner. “We think Marty is ideally suited to lead a strong staff in providing one of the leading golf experiences in Texas.”

Developed and owned by the city of El Paso’s Department of Aviation, Butterfield Trail features a par-72, championship design by world-renowned course architect Tom Fazio, complemented by a spacious practice facility and an 8,800-square-foot clubhouse. Fazio has taken advantage of distinctive desert topography, including natural sand dunes and native flora and fauna, to highlight the Southwest’s natural beauty.
