KemperSports appoints general manager of San Francisco's Harding Park

Steve Argo was hired for the position.

KemperSports, manager of Harding Park Golf Course in San Francisco, announced Steve Argo as general manager. In this role, Argo will oversee daily operations of the championship venue as well as Harding Park's sister Fleming Course, a nine-hole executive track situated on the property.

Argo, who hails from Colorado, has established a well-rounded career in the golf industry which spans private and daily-fee facilities, particularly on the West Coast. He most recently served as general manager at Seascape Golf Club in Santa Cruz, Calif., while also maintaining regional operations for San Geronimo Golf Course near San Francisco. Additionally, Argo's background includes extensive experience in food and beverage operations and retail management.

"Since its reopening, Harding Park has established itself as one of the premier golf courses in the country," said KemperSports President and COO Steve Skinner. "Steve will play a vital role in maintaining and enhancing Harding Park's reputation and preparing for the next major event."

Situated on a rolling peninsula surrounded by the shores of Lake Merced in San Francisco's southwestern corner, Harding Park features 27 holes of golf (Harding Park Golf Course and Fleming Course), a practice facility and a state-of-the-art clubhouse. Since 2004, the facility has also served as home of The First Tee of San Francisco. Harding Park's clubhouse, renovated then reopened in July 2005, offers a full-service golf shop, restaurant and banquet facilities for weddings and special events, complete with views of the course and Lake Merced.

Originally designed by Willie Watson in 1925, Harding Park Golf Course underwent a comprehensive restoration and reopened to the public in August 2003. Soon after its renovation, the venue welcomed back a PGA TOUR event - the 2005 WGC-American Express Championship - to its storied grounds. Owned by the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department and managed by KemperSports, the Bay Area design recently earned 4½ stars in Golf Digest's "2006/2007 Best Places to Play."
