“The clubhouse’s new interior plays off the existing soaring beam and plank ceiling to create an atmosphere of casual elegance,” says Ron Hutchins, principal of The Hutchins Group.
Rustic furnishings and details reminiscent of a golf lodge set the tone as members enter the new front doors and are welcomed in a foyer with a cathedral ceiling and moss-toned slate floors. A huge stone fireplace becomes the focal point of the bar and grill room, which also features a custom-made bar with a walnut finish and granite bar top and flanked by a 12-foot back bar. The club’s 17th hole, lake and flowering perennial gardens are on display from the clubhouse. Adjacent to the bar and grill room, members enjoy the setting of the new members lounge, complete with three plasma televisions.
“Kemper Lakes is a club steeped in tradition,” Kemper Lakes general manager Janet Dobson says. “Destined to become one of the nation’s premier private golf clubs, we wanted to elevate the image of the clubhouse to reflect the stature of the club. Our new interior reflects the quality and personality of the golf experience at Kemper Lakes in a warm, comfortable and inviting atmosphere.”
Since announcing the transition to become a private golf club, membership sales have grown steadily.
During the transition period, Kemper Lakes Golf Club, its practice facilities and the new bar and grill are open to the public. Golf outings and other special events are also being accepted.
Kemper Lakes Golf Club was the site of Payne Stewart’s 1989 PGA Championship victory. The club hosted four PGA Grand Slams of Golf, the 92nd USGA Women’s Amateur Championship, six Senior PGA Tour events from 1996 to 2001, the 2001 USGA Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship and the 2002 LaSalle Bank Open.
United Land Development of Schaumburg, Ill., is pursuing a proposed residential development of town homes and single-family homes that will be located on the golf course property with the Village of Kildeer. The developer is hoping to have preliminary approval for the residential community this summer.
“Our proposed master plan development will feature predominantly old world architecture found throughout the North Shore,” says Stephen Jouzapaitis, a principal of United Land Development and Kemper Lakes Golf Club. “The housing quality will be unsurpassed with extraordinary views of the Kemper Lakes golf course. We feel that the recent clubhouse renovation is an example of the quality of detail that will be reflected in the housing at Kemper Lakes. In addition, the residences will have such amenities as a swimming pool, hot tub, tennis, fitness center with spa, indoor basketball court and recreational center.”
Kemper Lakes Golf Club is located in Hawthorn Woods, Ill., on 276 acres. The par-72, 18-hole championship course is managed by Crown Golf Properties of Glenview, Ill. The Crown Golf portfolio includes 18 public, private and resort facilities.
