Keepers of the Green event returns to Dublin, Ohio

The annual spring tournament will be on June 20.

The Hurdzan/Fry USA chapter of Keepers of the Green will hold its Fifth Annual Spring Tournament at The Golf Club of Dublin, Ohio on June 20, 2006.  Lunch will be served in the clubhouse at noon, with a shotgun start to follow at 1:20 P.M.

Formed to promote the heritage and traditions of the game, Keepers of the Green was organized as the first-ever golf tribute to Old Tom Morris who made such an outstanding contribution through all the dramatic changes in the evolution of the game during his lifetime.  He was known as "The Grand Old Man of Golf," and was involved in every aspect of the game becoming a golfing legend in his own time.

"Keeper of the Green" was his title at Prestwick Golf Club, as it was when he came back to St. Andrews in 1864.  He maintained and improved the Old Course for over 40 years. He also ran a club-making business employing six craftsmen from 1867 until his death in 1908.

As part of the Keepers of the Green tradition the local chapter collects donations to provide a powered wheelchair to a needy person.  The tournament is also held to recruit new members.
