Kaua'i golf courses named on Golfweek's 100 Best Resort Courses list

The biennial list is generated by 400 panelists who rate top U.S. properties on the basis of 10 criteria of design excellence

  • The Kaua'i, Hawaii Visitors Bureau announced that several of the golf and resort properties in its golf-destination co-operative - Kaua'i: Discover Golf's Ultimate Island Green - have been voted onto Golfweek's 2007 Best Resort Golf Courses list.

The Prince Course at Princeville - home to 45 golf holes designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. - is rated as the No. 16 best golf resort course in America by Golfweek, followed at No. 49 by the Kiele Course at Kaua'i Lagoons Golf Club. Kaua'i Lagoons has 36 holes designed by Jack Nicklaus and is affiliated with the Kaua'i Marriott Resort & Beach Club.

A third member of the Kaua'i golf destination co-operative, Poipu Bay Golf Course (affiliated with the Grand Hyatt Kaua'i Resort & Spa), is rated No. 53.  Poipu Bay was also designed by Trent Jones Jr.  Poipu Bay was home to the PGA Grand Slam of Golf from 1994 to 2006.

Golfweek raters examine overall strength of routing, feature shaping, natural setting, greens, variety and memorability of holes, conditioning and maintenance, landscape management and other criteria.

"Having three of Kauai's four golf-destination partners rated among the very best golf resorts and courses by an esteemed national publication such as Golfweek is a wonderful, critical endorsement," says Sue Kanoho, executive director of the Kaua'i Visitors Bureau.  "We hope this distinction will entice people to visit Kaua'i and experience those great golf properties, as well our other golf-destination partner - Puakea Golf Course - also tremendous and well-regarded in its own right."
