Raleigh, N.C. – June 6 marked another successful day in the fight against cancer as volunteers, sponsors and celebrities came together for the Fourth Annual Jimmy V Celebrity Junior Golf Classic at Brier Creek Country Club in Raleigh, N.C. The annual event raised more than $75,000 for pediatric cancer research, including a $25,000 contribution from the Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Classic. This year’s efforts bring the total amount raised during the event’s four-year history to $300,000.
The annual event, which pairs local and national celebrities with children, began at 8 a.m. with a golf clinic. Jamie Holmes of Raleigh, claimed one of the highlights of the day when he made a hole in one from 101 yards on the par 3, 16th hole.
Andrew Tibbetts, also of Raleigh, presented the Junior Classic with a check for $1,600 to aid in the search for a cure. Tibbetts, who recently completed Leukemia treatments himself, wanted to find a way to help others facing cancer. He constructed birdhouses and then sold them to raise the $1,600 for the Junior Classic.
“What can you say about a young man like Andrew,” says Beth Jarvis, tournament director. “He exemplifies the passion this tournament is all about.
“It was extremely rewarding day, and we are so grateful for the support and commitment from our sponsors and volunteers. Without their efforts, we couldn’t make this happen.”
As part of the Jimmy V Celebrity Junior Golf Classic, participants attended both a swim clinic at Brier Creek Country Club and a pairings party at Jillian’s June 5. Olympic gold medalist and Junior Classic honorary co-chair Rowdy Gaines, hosted a swim clinic and instructed the children on proper swim techniques. Later that evening, participants attended a pairings party at Jillian’s in downtown Raleigh. The party featured food, games and fun for all participants, including a silent auction and a raffle.
