Jacobsen receives 2008 Environmental Excellence Award

Accolade presented to companies that are 90 percent compliant reporting and monitoring discharges into the municipal sewer system.

Jacobsen, the international turf maintenance equipment manufacturer, has received a 2008 Environmental Excellence Award from the Environmental Management Division of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities.

Chris Wissinger, Jacobsen’s facility engineer and maintenance supervisor, attended the award luncheon and accepted the Silver award, which is presented to companies that are 90 percent compliant reporting and monitoring discharges into the municipal sewer system.

Industrial and commercial facilities subject to this program are required to obtain wastewater permits that contain limits on the amounts of pollutants they can discharge. The recipients of these awards have complied with their permit requirements, cooperated fully with the Environmental Management Division and have taken a proactive and innovative approach to protecting the quality of Charlotte’s water.

Commenting after receiving the award, Wissinger said, “We’re obviously delighted to receive this recognition from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities as it confirms Jacobsen’s commitment to environmental matters right across the business. Our ISO 14001 accreditation, the international standard for environmental management, is one of the tools we use to effectively manage our environmental impact and it is embraced and supported by everyone at our Charlotte facility. We’ll be going for Gold next year.”
