Jacklin Seed varieties top third consecutive NTEP trials

Thirteen of the 15 top-performing bluegrass entries were bred by Jacklin.

According to the preliminary bluegrass trial results released by the National Turfgrass Evaluation Program, Jacklin Seed varieties accounted for thirteen of the top fifteen bluegrass varieties.

The recent results mark an entire decade of Jacklin Seed dominance in NTEP bluegrass trials. Jacklin Seed varieties topped the list for overall turf quality of the two previous five-year NTEP studies, from 1995-1999 and 2000-2005.

“We’re very excited to hear the results, because it is a testament to our hard work,” said Doug Brede, research director for Jacklin Seed by Simplot. “We led the last two trials, and this underlines our commitment to research and to continually producing new, quality bluegrass varieties.”

The most recent NTEP trial was planted in August 2005 and contains 110 varieties evaluated at 18 university locations across the U.S. The recently released data includes the preliminary results of that planting.

Of the thirteen leading Jacklin Seed varieties, eight are experimental varieties that will be released to the market as early as this year. The remaining Jacklin Seed varieties are already commercially available, including the top-performing NuGlade, a shade-tolerant variety used around the world for its rich, dark green coloring and outstanding fairway performance.

NTEP is a widely known turfgrass research program conducting annual turfgrass testing for traits including quality, color, density, disease resistance and heat tolerance. Its data is used by plant breeders, researchers, growers and consumers worldwide.
