Institute adds to advisory council

Weldon Wyatt, founder and c.e.o. of Sage Valley Golf Club in Graniteville, S.C., has agreed to serve on the Environmental Institute for Golf advisory council. He joins 10 other members of the advisory council headed by PGA Tour professional Greg Norman.

Wyatt founded the Aiken County Junior Golf Association to ensure that any student interested in golf would have an opportunity to play. He is also a retired real-estate developer and the founder of the Aiken County Dollars for Scholars, a program that allows local students to further their education through scholarships.

Wyatt has received numerous awards and special recognition, including the Order of the Palmetto awarded by South Carolina Gov. Jim Hodges in 2003, the 2002 Aiken County Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year, and the 2001 American Institute for Public Service Jefferson Award, a national award for public service.

“I am delighted to join these 10 other distinguished gentlemen in making a commitment to advance environmental practices on the golf course and convey the importance of environmental stewardship to other individuals and organizations,” Wyatt says.

The purpose of the advisory council is to provide guidance to the Institute's board of trustees in the areas of outreach, fundraising and strategic planning. The members were selected to the advisory council to enhance the Institute's ability to cultivate relationships with current and potential donors, as well as communicate the importance of the work conducted by the Institute.

“Weldon will be an exceptional asset to the advisory council,” says Greg Norman, chairman of the advisory council, chairman and c.e.o. of Great White Shark Enterprises and an Institute trustee. “In addition to his leadership at Sage Valley, he is passionately committed to charity, education and the community. I look forward to working with him.”

The Environmental Institute for Golf, the philanthropic organization of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America, is a collaborative effort of the environmental and golf communities, dedicated to strengthening the compatibility of golf with the natural environment. The Institute concentrates on delivering programs and services involving information collection, research, education and outreach that communicate the best management practices of environmental stewardship on the golf course.
