Indianwood Golf and Country Club in Lake Orion, Mich., near Detroit, has been selected by the United States Golf Association to host the 2012 U.S. Senior Open. The dates of the championship will be July 12-15.
Indianwood’s Old Course, which was designed by Wilfrid Reid and William Connellan and opened in 1925, previously hosted the 1989 and 1994 U.S. Women’s Opens, won by Betsy King and Patty Sheehan, respectively.
The club also hosted the 1930 Western Open, which was won by Gene Sarazen.
“Indianwood is thrilled to host the Senior Open,” said owner Stan Aldridge. “It’s our intent to make it one of the top Senior Opens in history.”
Indianwood Golf and Country Club has also been the site of the Michigan PGA Championship and Michigan Open.
Michigan will be hosting its third Senior Open. Oakland Hills Country Club in Birmingham had previously served as the championship site in 1981 and 1991.
Prior to 2012, the Senior Open will be played at The Broadmoor Golf Club in Colorado Springs, Colo., from July 31-Aug. 3, 2008; at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Ind., from July 30-Aug. 2, 2009; at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Wash., from July 29-Aug. 1, 2010; and at Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio, from July 28-31, 2011.
