Falls Church, Va. - The Irrigation Association launched a new common interest group to provide a platform for nursery and floriculture stakeholders to discuss shared issues. The Nursery and Floriculture CIG will hold its first meeting in April 2008.
The nursery and floriculture industries represent a total of 500,000 acres of plant production and approximately $9.5 billion in annual sales. The new CIG recognizes the importance of these growers in the water management debate and provides a forum to define and promote irrigation best practices and provide training.
IA common interest groups are comprised of industry leaders who meet regularly to define best practices for effective water management, establish benchmarks and guidelines for irrigation products and applications, and promote efficient irrigation technology and practices. The new nursery group joins eight other active CIGs that address irrigation issues related to agriculture, center pivot and lateral move, chemigation, contractors, designers, drip/micro, turf/landscape and manufacturer’s representatives.
The Nursery CIG will meet by conference call in April to formalize leadership and develop a communication strategy and goals for 2008.
