Hurricane Charley forces postponement of Lekarica Golf auction

The scheduled Sept. 2 auction of Lekarica Golf, Country Inn and Resort has been postponed until a future date due to the damage of Hurricane Charley August 13.

Lake Wales, Fla. - The scheduled Sept. 2 auction of Lekarica Golf, Country Inn and Resort has been postponed until a future date due to the damage of Hurricane Charley August 13.

"Like everything else in the area, the Lekarica resort sustained damage that will have to be repaired. More importantly, with the devastation throughout central Florida and the loss of life, people here have other priorities. There are more important things to deal with than selling a golf course and resort," said Craig King, president of J.P. King Auction Company, of Gadsden, Ala.

King said a new date for the auction will be announced once the recovery timeline for the area takes shape.

General manager Eric Weaver he hopes to have the course reopened within a week. "We were very fortunate. We lost some trees, but most of them don't affect the way the course plays. We'll have to do some building repairs like everyone else in the area, but it should be better than ever," said Weaver.

The resort spans about 180 acres on Lake Easy in Lake Wales, midway between Tampa and Orlando.
