Highland Golf LLC, the company which built and operates Rustic Canyon Golf Course, has been hired by Ventura County to manage Soule Park Golf Course.
Mark Wipf, the director of golf at Rustic Canyon, has taken over as general manager/director of golf of Soule Park, but all other members of the staff, including head professional Tyson York, have been retained.
Wipf will be in charge of running the day-to-day operations at Soule Park, but will remain director of golf at Rustic Canyon.
Part of his job at Soule Park will be to oversee the needed repairs to the golf course.
"We have a two-year contract with the county and we're just trying to repair and renew," Wipf said. "Getting the repairs done is a top priority.
"We have a good relationship with the county. This is a course I have always wanted to see done right. And now we have the chance to do that."
Wipf said the course is bouncing back after heavy rains in the winter caused about $3 million in damage.
All 18 holes are open, however, two holes have temporary greens.
"The water is running down the middle of the creek the way it should and the banks are angled again," Wipf said. "Keeping the water where it should be kept is almost complete.
"We will bring the architect out next week to devise a master plan and go from there. We want to take this course beyond where it was. I want to take it to a new level. Things are going fast and smooth. People are seeing a difference every day."
Dziabo headed for Virginia
Sterling Hills head professional Mike Dziabo has left the Camarillo golf facility to take a similar position in Haymarket, Va.
Dziabo is headed for Bull Run Golf Club, a high-end public golf facility located just outside Washington.
During his tenure, Dziabo helped Sterling Hills become one of the top public golf courses in Ventura County.
"Bull Run is very similar to Sterling Hills," Dziabo said. "They are both top-rate facilities. I have enjoyed my time at Sterling Hills."
Dziabo, a native of Pennsylvania, said the move allows him and his wife to be closer to their families, which live on the East Coast.
