Heritage Golf Group acquired Colonial Country Club in Memphis, Tennessee, bringing its national portfolio to 43 clubs.
Colonial Country Club is home to the South Course, formerly ranked among the country’s top 100 historic courses, which has hosted more than 30 PGA Tour events, including the FedEx St. Jude Classic. Colonial also features an expansive practice facility with a full-length driving range, two Bermudagrass putting greens and a short game area.
The club has also been the site of some memorable golf moments, including President Gerald Ford’s hole in one on the 5th hole, dubbed the “Shot Heard Around the World,” and Al Geiberger’s record-breaking round of 59 during the 1977 Danny Thomas Memphis Classic.
“Acquiring such a historically significant club in a dynamic new market for us is incredibly exciting,” Heritage Golf Group operations EVP Eric Boberg said. “Colonial has a strong reputation in the game of golf, and we’re honored to carry its legacy forward while introducing a new era of elevated member experiences.”
Heritage Golf Group has immediate plans to implement a comprehensive multimillion-dollar capital improvement plan aimed at reimagining and revitalizing the clubhouse, dining venues, lifestyle amenities, and overall member experience.
“Colonial is home to one of the most iconic courses in the region and we see incredible potential to elevate the rest of the club to that same standard,” Boberg said. “Our goal is to make meaningful enhancements early on and create a modern, vibrant club that honors its historic legacy.”
