Washington, NJ. – Hawk Pointe Golf Club, a semi-private golf club, announced that it will convert to fully private status Sept. 5. This move comes less than five years after the club’s opening in June of 2000.
“From day one, we were committed to becoming a private club, and we feel that now is the right time in order to continue the momentum toward establishing a strong membership base,” says Richard Cotton, one of the principal owners of Hawk Pointe.
Back in the late 1990s, it was Cotton who saved the property from residential development to fulfill his dream of creating an environmentally friendly and critically acclaimed golf course in the rolling hills of Warren County.
Over the past five years, Hawk Pointe’s 18-hole, Kelly Blake Moran-designed golf course has consistently been ranked among the top public tracks in New Jersey and is widely acclaimed for the impeccable condition of its fairways and greens. Just this past year, Hawk Pointe was ranked No. 6 on Jersey Golfer magazine’s list of the state’s “Top 25 Public Golf Courses” and No. 2 in the “Best Conditioned” category. In addition, Hawk Pointe has been dubbed a “Must Play” by both PubLinks Golfer magazine and GolfStyles New Jersey.
In addition to the golf course, Hawk Pointe also has a practice facility and learning center. A bent grass tee area measuring approximately 45,000 square feet overlooks a defined fairway and four target greens guarded by two bunkers.
On Memorial Day, the club will unveil a swimming and beginning in May of 2005, Hawk Pointe will start construction on two, Har-Tru tennis courts and the expansion of its clubhouse. When complete, the new 30,000 square ft. clubhouse will feature men’s and women’s locker rooms, a state-of-the-art fitness center, an exclusive pro shop, casual and formal dining rooms, and banquet facilities that can accommodate up to 300 guests.
According to director of golf and co-owner Bob Ross, it is the membership that sets the club apart from the rest of the competition.
“There is a warm and inviting family atmosphere at Hawk Pointe,” says Ross, who was the head golf professional at Baltusrol for 21 years. “On any given day, you will see older and younger members sharing rounds of golf or parents and their kids enjoying our many clinics and activities. There is a tremendous amount of excitement in the air as we begin to shape the future of this very special club.”
More than 165 memberships have been sold since the club opened. Membership fees begin incremental increases in June. Golf, executive and corporate memberships are available.
