Hawaii image is picture perfect

Hawaii grounds manager wins an online photo competition.

SISIS, a United Kingdom turf equipment manufacturer, whose subsidiary company SISIS Inc. is based in South Carolina, capped their online photo competition by naming a customer in Hawaii winner.

The competition was run in conjunction with pitchcare.com, the interactive magazine Web site for turf professionals.

Winner David Klawitter, who has been president of the Hawaii Turfgrass Association and on the board of directors for 20 years, received hotel vouchers for a weekend break of his choice.

The principal turfgrass species used in Hawaii have traditionally been Bermuda grass and selective hybrids such as Tif Way and Tif Dwarf, and in the past few years varieties of Paspalum have become popular. However the hybrids and Paspalum varieties tend to have a lot of thatch.

Klawitter uses two SISIS Rotorake 600 deep de-thatchers to maintain quality putting surfaces and has recently purchased a SISIS VEEMO for the fairways.

“I have seen a lot of machines work hard at vertical mowing, but I have never seen a machine so easily adjusted and as productive as the Veemo,” he says.
