Half Moon Golf Course in Rose Hall, Jamaica, will offer a golf academy, says managing director Richard Whitfield.
The facility, opening this month will offer a variety of instructional programs individually tailored to fit the needs of all golfers from complete beginners through to experienced professionals.
One-hour private lessons focusing on full swing or short game including video and computer analysis will be offered both individually and for couples. Cost is $100 and $150 respectively.
Not to be left out, families can also get in the swing of things together with an introductory clinic covering the basics of both the short game and full swing. Costing $250 this rate is applicable to two adults and up to four children. While a one-hour junior’s clinic for children six to 14 years old is $50 per child. The one hour junior’s programme will focus on the fundamentals of both the full swing and short game.
Additionally, for $150 golfers who want to hone their club and shot selection as well as course management skills to shave strokes off their score can take advantage of the two-hour, nine-hole playing lesson.
“Our course is ideal for learning more about and practicing the game of golf," Whitfield says. "Similarly, the Half Moon Golf Academy is designed to make this less prohibitive so that travelers can feel comfortable learning to hold a club for the first time or improving particular aspects of their game."
The academy will be led by the resort’s recently appointed Director of Golf Ewan Peebles, a PGA professional from Scotland and an adept instructor with over 10 years of experience coaching golfers of all ability levels in both Jamaica and Scotland. As the winner of the 2006 & 2007 PGA of Jamaica order of merit, he is currently their number one ranked professional golfer and he also coached the island’s national team for the 2006 Caribbean Amateur Golf Championship.
Dubbed one of the best walking courses in the Caribbean, the recently renovated Half Moon golf course features newly-aligned, multiple tee complexes as well as repositioned fairway and greenside bunkers. Greens fee for 18 holes of golf at the Half Moon Golf Club is $105 per round for resident guests from January 1 – April 15 and $85 from April 16 – December 14.
