Richard Whitfield, Half Moon’s managing director, announced that a new golf director was hired at the Rose Hall, Jamaica resort.
A native of Scotland, Ewan Peebles will assume his new position as Director of Golf for the recently renovated Half Moon Golf Club this November. With over 10 years experience as a golf professional, Peebles will be charged with developing the Half Moon Golf Academy, improving Half Moon’s already impressive golf product and working closely with Half Moon’s sales team and the Rose Hall Golf Association to bring more golfers to the venerable course.
A qualified PGA professional and Jamaica’s number one ranked professional golfer, Peebles most recently held the position of head professional at the Sandals Golf & Country Club and prior to that, worked as the assistant professional at the Glenbervie Golf Club, one of Scotland’s foremost clubs. At both clubs Ewan distinguished himself as an adept tournament manager and golf instructor. He managed the coordination of various national tournaments in Jamaica as well as coached Jamaica’s national team for the 2006 Caribbean Amateur Golf Championship. He also coached the Glenbervie Golf Club’s junior section for four years while he worked as assistant professional at the club.
"With Ewan’s extensive experience as an instructor and coach we are confident that he is well suited to develop the Half Moon Golf Academy, which will replace the David Leadbetter Golf Academy," said Mr. Whitfield. "We enjoyed our partnership with the David Leadbetter team; however, we believe that our own training facility led by Ewan will offer our guests an excellent experience in keeping with our tradition of superior service."
Renovated in 2006 by Roger Rulewich, protégé to the course’s original designer Robert Trent Jones Sr., Half Moon’s 18-hole, par-72 golf course features aligned multiple tee complexes, repositioned fairway and greenside bunkers. In addition to a driving range, golfers can practice chipping, pitching and bunker shots at the laser-leveled teaching tee. Additionally, thanks to the traditional parkland course layout, golfers have the option of walking with their well-trained, professional caddies or riding in a cart.
Golf rates for 18 holes of golf are $105 from Jan. 1 – April 15 and $85 from April 16 – Dec. 14. Children between 9 – 16 can also tee off for only $35 per round when accompanied by a paying adult.
