Half Moon Bay names pro

Josh Payne will oversee the entire golf operation for Half Moon Bay’s Ocean and Old courses, supervising the professional and outside operations staffs.

Half Moon Bay, Calif. – Josh Payne has taken over as head professional at Half Moon Bay Golf Links. Payne will oversee the entire golf operation for Half Moon Bay’s Ocean and Old courses, supervising the professional and outside operations staffs. He will work in accordance with longtime general manager Lyn Nelson.

“It’s an extremely fortunate opportunity to be able to work for an organization like Half Moon Bay that is managed by such a great group of people,” Payne says. “I am also looking forward to learning from a great general manager with such an extensive background as Lyn.”

Payne, who grew up in Sacramento, had been a first assistant professional at the private Palo Alto Hills Country Club since October of 2003. There he trained and supervised the assistant professional staff and oversaw an outside staff of approximately 10 employees. He also organized events and taught an average of eight lessons per week.

Prior to that, Payne served two-and-a-half years as first assistant at Villages Golf and Country Club in San Jose. He handled golf operations, inventory control, tournament operations, golf lessons and supervised the outside services staff. He also served as interim head professional for three months.
